Swissotel Swiss Food Festival 2008

  12 August 2008

After last years success, the Swissôtel (68 Market St, Sydney) relaunched the Swiss Food Festival (25th July – 4th August 2008), this time featuring cuisines from the Ticino region lunch ($38 lunch, $55 dinner).

The decorations on the outside and in the seating area were impressive with cascading vines and hanging grapes however i thought there seemed to be a lack of presentation in the buffet itself.

da foods

The awesome band ‘Alba Trio’ were flown down from Switzerland courtesy of Swiss Air Lines

Trout fillet with sage butter on leek ragout, eggplant roulade with ham. i loooved the trout fillet it was so soft and melted in the mouth

Broccoli with walnut, polenta with blue cheese. i wasnt a huge fan of the polenta mainly because i didnt see what it actually was and took a huge bite thinking it was a nice buttery mashed potato… sadness…

Veal escalope in cheese crust with mushroom and ham on zucchini, marinated spring chicken with paprika and rosemary. The veal was awesome! Altho i could be a little biased because it was the only hot food that had cheese in it compared to last year where everything had cheese in it…

Swiss-ticino cold cuts platter. There’s just something about pistachio flecked ham slices that make me go ooh preetty =D

But what we came for was the fondue! It was $25 extra and I was hoping for a platter of stuff to accompany it but all we got was cubes of bread (like last year) and there wasnt much on the buffet that we could have used to dip in so i became very full from eating bread which meant hardly any room for dessert!

ah closeup of my bread cube dripping in cheesey goodness

My pate to bread ratio heh i love pate! So rich and artery clogging…

Cheese. I was a little disappointed with the selection of cheeses- while 1 wedge was from Switzerland the other wedge was from Tasmania… i wouldnt have minded so much had there been a wider variety of cheese cos Australia has some awesome cheeses but if they can ship 80kg of chestnuts in from Switzerland then surely they couldve brought some more cheese?

Dessert! ah shiny chocolate fountain you bring a smile to everyones face

More dessert! Mini creme caramels, tiramisu, flans, chocolate mousse, chestnut tarts, fruit salad mmm sweetness
